The pressure might all be on Neymar over the next few weeks to deliver on his promise as the 'new Pele' and spearhead his country to glory at the World Cup but such is the pace of Brazil's production line, there's already a 'new Neymar' waiting in line.
The most vaunted football finishing school in the World Cup host nation, at São Paulo's Santos, just never stops. The latest off the conveyer belt is Gabriel Barbosa Almeida or Gabriel for short and he has enough divine talent to match his angelic name.
Having made his professional debut as a 16-year-old almost a year ago, the man the fans have dubbed 'Gabigol' because of his scoring prowess, has gone on to make history in his sophomore season. It's led to the kind of comparisons that Gabriel sounds keen to avoid.
'Neymar is unique, he is a genius. I’m a boy, I have a lot to learn,' he said earlier this year. 'To be compared with him is an honour but Gabriel is Gabriel and Neymar is Neymar. It’s impossible to be as good as him.'
He can dislike the 'new Neymar' tag all he wants but Gabriel hasn't really helped his cause by equalling and then breaking his predecessor's scoring record as a 17-year-old.
His league goal in Santos's 2-0 win against Criciuma last weekend made it 14 in 29 games this term, already beating Neymar's mark at the same age with the season less than half-way through.
The bad news for suitors is that as part of the now infamous deal to take Neymar to Europe, Barcelona also secured first rights on Gabigol. The disclosure of the true details behind the transfer led to Sandro Rosell's fall from grace as Barca chairman but there's no denying that including the Gabriel clause in the overall agreement does look to be a masterstroke.
The comparisons with Neymar are unavoidable yet largely circumstantial. From a footballing perspective they are not identical players. Gabriel is slightly taller, certainly stronger and more capable of mixing power with pace and skill. At 17 the potential is certainly there for him to become a better all-round finisher, which could make him the perfect complement to Neymar's playmaking brilliance. And Barcelona are the ones who could make that happen.'Someday I hope to become a Barca player,' Gabriel has said. 'I've dreamed of this since I was little, from the moment I started playing football.'
Should he keep up his scorching form, we might be wise to expect to see that heavenly talent on the sacred ground at the Nou Camp sooner rather than later.
